Niche Research Blueprint: Days 16-20

February 16, 2023by Nicole Lynn
Niche Research Blueprint Days 16-20

Here is Days 16-20 of the 30 Day Niche Research Blueprint to help you with selecting a niche for your online business.

On these days, you will continue the steps in researching your chosen niche for your online business.

Day 16: Check the Audio Media

Don’t just focus your research online and through print media.

On Day 16, you also want to look at any audio information.

Many niches will also have a segment such as a blogcast or podcast.

These may be posted on a niche’s blog or on various social media channels.

You can also look through several platforms that feature podcasts that may be connected to your niche.

You can look through platforms like Apple.

For example, if your niche is financial and you wanted to see if investing was a viable topic, then you could check out investing podcasts.

These are sometimes referred to as “radio shows” even if they are podcasts.

During your niche study, you want to see if you can find an “upcoming topics” section and what these may be saying about investing.

This will let you know not only what could be popular, but also what people are looking for.

Day 17: Find What’s Missing

There’s no way for every topic people need information about to be covered so well that there’s no longer a need for more.

Everyone brings their own personality, experience, knowledge and passion to a given niche, there is room for everyone’s take on the topic.

Again, since no one can be all things to all people and because no one is perfect, this will leave an opening for what you have to offer.

The trick is to find it through observation, and that’s what you’ll be doing on Day 17.

You’ll be able to spot ways that you can approach the topic using means that your competitor either has not done or did do, but it wasn’t done well enough, and the market is still wide open for you.

For example, you’re in the make money online niche, also known as the MMO niche.

You might find that another online entrepreneur in the MMO niche compiled information on how to start a business online, but they neglected to cover how to respond to problems with customers or how to best meet their needs.

You could write an article, blog post, guide, ebook or do a video or podcast on how to handle online customer relations to gain consumer loyalty.

Or, you might see someone that offers information about how to set up a business using social media or how to use it to grow a business, but the information contains too much fluff and doesn’t cover all the important details.

You could use this information you’ve discovered to offer what your competition does not.

Day 18: Discovering What to Charge

In your niche, you need to know what to charge for what you’re offering.

Obviously, this only really applies to you if you’re going to be creating and selling your own products.

So, you can really skip Day 18 if you plan on only promoting other people’s products as an affiliate marketer.

If you plan on doing both, then definitely pay attention to Day 18.

When you create your own products and you’re trying to figure out what to charge, you want to be careful so that you’re competitive, but you also don’t want to severely undercharge either.

So, you want to spend time researching that aspect of your niche.

You might hear a lot of advice on what you should charge, but never go by “should” because there are many things to consider.

By pulling up similar information that your competitors offer, you’ll be able to see how they are priced.

You’ll also be able to tell what was included in the product or information for that amount.

You’ll want to have similar items of value.

Check each part of the product offered by your competitors.

Look at their bonus offers and any bundles they might offer to boost a one product sale into a multiple purchase funnel.

You also want to know how to handle it if your customers balk at one product – maybe because they’re having trouble affording it.

This way, you can immediately offer a less expensive option (a downsell) that would still help them until they can afford the more expensive product.

Be sure to set your price so that if anyone else gets a cut of the profit, like a JV partner or affiliates promoting your product, that you still make what you need to earn.

Day 19: Create Your Own Upsells and Downsells

When you’re doing your niche research on Day 19, you need to look at what your competition is offering as their upsells and downsells.

An upsell is an additional product that costs slightly more than the original purchase.

Think of this as the option to “supersize” an order at a restaurant.

A downsell is a product that costs slightly less than the upsell, but still has some of the same features.

This would be like a restaurant where you say no to the milkshake for an extra $1, but say yes to the cookie for 50 cents.

You are looking to see what your competition is offering with upsells and downsells, so that you can know what to offer your customers.

In digital information products, you might have an upsell with a full multimedia bundle that includes videos, audios and infographics for $47.

If they say no to that offer, then a downsell might be to offer them just the infographics portion for $10.

This is great for people who want more, but who can’t afford an entire upgrade.

Keep in mind that sales funnels should always offer value in every aspect and in every price range.

The downsells should always be helpful and valuable to your customers, same as the upsells or the original front-end offering.

Day 20: Look for Extra Income Through Physical Products

Smart online business owners don’t just focus on selling digital products.

They also offer physical items like books, stickers, tote bags, pillows, clothing and more.

It really depends on the niche that you’re in, but be creative because this can really set you apart from others in your niche.

So, use Day 20 to brainstorm physical products that you can offer.

Sometimes these items can be as simple as products with your logo or a niche saying on them.

You can sell these yourself on your own website, but you can also use an online company that will handle packing, shipping, returns and customer service for you.

This is known as print on demand physical items.

It’s one of the easiest ways to expand your income without a lot of extra effort.

Some niches have certain products that work well, like customized water bottles for the fitness niche, and if you look on social media sites today, you’ll see how people are making them.

You can really get some great ideas during your research and even come up with some even better ideas yourself.

This concludes Days 16-20 in the 30 Day Niche Research Blueprint.

My Online Journey

My Online Business Journey

You don’t know me.

I’m not some flashy internet marketing “guru” with my name and face all over the internet.

I’m just an ordinary person that had to figure out a way to make money online when I lost my job in 2008, due to health issues.

In the offline world, I gained several years experience in Customer Service, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and various other clerical type positions.

Much of it was drudgery, especially working in call centers.

I was good at my various jobs, but I did not enjoy being hostage to a cubicle and headset..lol 🙂

But, you do what soul sucking jobs you have to do, in order to make money to pay the bills.

As a free spirit, I always had the deep desire to break free from the cubicle-zombie-robot rat race world and have full control over my time, income and life, without having to have permission from a boss.

I was tired of being just another “number” that was expendable, no matter how dependable I was or how hard I worked (just to help build someone else’s wealth and make their dreams come true).

I wanted to create MY freedom…not just build it for someone else.

Unexpectedly in 2008, severe neck issues forced me out of the 9 to 5 corporate world rat race (before I was actually ready financially, which really sucked a lot and was pretty scary).

My neck issues got worse after years of being trapped at a computer, with little to no permission to get up and move around and stretch.

This is not good when you are suffering from old car accident injuries.

This was especially the case in call center jobs with low cubicle walls. They didn’t want you standing up, due to the noise while on calls.

And although losing my job and the paycheck was a less than pleasant experience, my goal was to be an online entrepreneur anyway.

But, I was forced to make it happen at that point…which was not ideal.

Wasted Time Dabbling

Stop Wasting Time

It’s better to have a 2nd income already coming in regularly before losing your main source of income, but I had no control over what happened.

I had already been “dabbling” in internet marketing, on the side, since 2004…basically wasting time.

I treated it as a hobby, instead of an online business.

I actually made a little bit of money with affiliate commissions and some advertising revenue, but it was nothing to write home about because I did not build it up.

If I had realized that my health was going to go sideways so badly in 2008, then I would’ve taken my online business “side gig” much more seriously.

I would’ve hustled, even while still working a full-time job, because 4 years would’ve been more than enough time to have built that online business into a full-time income.

Just an extra 1 hour per day consistently over that 4 year period…would have made all the difference.

So, after I lost my job in 2008, I was in a real bind for more than one reason.

I needed to get serious and stop dabbling and start hustling to make money online, but it takes time to build an online business that brings in consistent income.

I was out of time. My household went from two incomes to one and I needed to get moving.

The problem was my severe neck issues and the accompanying dizziness from nerve damage in my C1 Vertebrae, the Atlas.

So, this meant that I couldn’t exactly hustle like I needed to because being on a computer for hours each day at home is no different than doing it at a job.

I was no longer able to do this, if I wanted to not end up completely disabled or bed-ridden.

The years 2008-2011 were extremely tough in trying to heal, but with proper therapy, the worst of it got better, but it’s not 100%.

Even now in 2022, I still can only be on a computer so much each day, without causing flare-ups.

So again, if I had taken it all more seriously, then I wouldn’t have ended up with so many financial worries, when I lost my job.

I would’ve had something more substantial to fall back on during times that were difficult money-wise and health-wise.

Then, add in beating my head against the wall, jumping from one “program” to another and basically flushing more time and money down the toilet.

Losing my job made me act in desperation because I wanted to make something happen right now.

So, I ended up doing what a lot of people do, which is looking for a shortcut and something “quick” or “push button”…which is not realistic because it doesn’t really exist.

Then in 2012, I joined Wealthy Affiliate because it had the tools and resources I needed all in one place, to help me build an online business.

Fast forward to 2020, I joined The Home Business Academy to add even more great tools and resources to my online business arsenal.

I now use both of these resources to build my online business.

I talk more about this over on my Recommended Resources page listed under Resources #1 and #2.

I enjoy making money online because I can work from anywhere and on my own schedule, while still being able to take care of my health.

You Can Do It Too

You Can Do It

So, why do I tell you all of this?

I share all of this with you, so you’ll know it’s possible to make money online and have total freedom from the 9-5 grind.

It takes time to build an online business, but it’s worth it to build either a side-income to supplement your full-time job or replace your job.

If you have found yourself in a similar situation to me or you simply want to get ahead of things and plan for the future, your goal going forward should be to not waste any more time.

Whether you love your job or hate your job, it’s always a good idea to have a Plan B to supplement your income or replace your income.

You never know what can happen with your job or even with your health.

Don’t waste time, like I did.

Just get started and keep going.

Do not dabble.

Take action now.

And most importantly, believe in yourself.

You can do it!
